Five Roller Shade Fabrics — Which One Is Right for Your Room?
The fabric you choose determines everything — how much light comes through, how much heat is blocked, how much privacy you have, and how your room feels throughout the day. Here is what each option does and where it works best.
Light-Filtering - Diffuses Florida’s natural light without blocking it. Your room stays bright without the harsh direct glare. During the day you can see out — people outside cannot see in clearly. The most popular choice for living rooms and common areas where you want natural light without the Florida sun beating directly into the space.
Best for: living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, any room where natural light matters more than full privacy.
Solar & Sun - Screen Mesh fabric specifically engineered to block UV rays and reduce heat transfer while preserving your view to the outside. The openness factor — typically 1% to 10% — determines how much light and visibility comes through. A 3% openness solar shade blocks most glare while still allowing a view. A 1% openness shade blocks nearly all direct light while maintaining a one-way daytime view.
Best for: south and west-facing windows, rooms where heat reduction is the priority, spaces where you want to protect furniture from UV fading.
Room-Darkening - Blocks most light — significantly more than light-filtering fabric — while allowing a small amount to soften around the edges. Not full blackout, but a noticeably darker and more private space. The right choice when you want substantial privacy and reduced light without committing to a completely dark room.
Best for: bedrooms, home offices where screen glare is an issue, media rooms used in the daytime.
Blackout - Zero light penetration when the shade is down and the window is properly covered. We come to your home with fabric samples in every option — light-filtering, solar, room-darkening, blackout, and motorized. We assess each window’s sun exposure, privacy needs, and use case. We recommend the right fabric for each room. You receive a written itemized quote before we leave. No charge. No obligation.
Custom Fabrication
Every shade is built to your exact window measurements. Standard sizes do not exist in our process. Every panel is fabricated to the specific millimeter dimensions we took during your consultation — including oversized panels for wide openings and sliding glass doors. Fabrication typically takes 1 to 2 weeks.
Single-Visit Installation
We arrive with your completed shades and install everything in one visit. We mount every bracket, hang every panel, and verify the operation and fit of every window before we leave. If motorized shades are included, we configure all smart home connections the same day.

The key is a precise custom fit — store-bought blackout shades leave light gaps at the edges regardless of the fabric because they are not cut to your exact window dimensions. Our custom-measured shades are fabricated to eliminate those gaps.
Quality custom roller shades with commercial-grade hardware typically last 8 to 12 years in Florida’s climate when the right fabric is specified for the environment. We only install fabrics rated for direct UV exposure and humidity — not standard residential grade products that fade and degrade faster in Central Florida’s conditions.
